ABOUT US

The Beccles Choral Society is an amateur choir based in the lovely Suffolk market town of Beccles. We are a community choir performing a wide variety of choral music – from oratorio to opera and from folk song to specially commissioned pieces.

After an exhaustive (and exhausting!) recruitment exercise the Choral Society is delighted to have secured the services of Geoff Lavery as its new Musical Director. Geoff will take up the baton in September and his first Concert with the choir will be the Chrismas concert Geoff is already buzzing with ideas for future performance and is eager to start rehearsing with us. We are pleased to continue our association with the Public Hall and to support Beccles Lido Ltd in its efforts to retain the building as a local amenity. Although we like to concentrate on traditional choral works we also sing music from contemporary composers, pieces arranged by our own conductor and/or our rehearsal pianist and fun, novelty pieces, particularly at Christmas.Our usual performance venues are the magnificent St Michael’s Church and the Beccles Public Hall but in recent years we have also sung in Blythburgh Church, Loddon Church, the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft, Snape Maltings and Kentwell Hall in Long Melford. In those venues the choir has performed with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the London Gala Orchestra, BBC Radio Suffolk and with Aled Jones.
